Rick McCosker OAM, Patron of Hunter Taverners, says, “The recognition from Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW is well-deserved. We couldn’t be more pleased for, and proud of, Toby and Jas at All Ability Sports Coaching. The Hunter branch of Taverners is honoured to be a sponsor of AASC and an active partner in the development of the breakthrough PB Target Cricket model.”

Hunter Taverners sponsorship of AASC has included:

  • Team playing and touring shirts to build a strong identity and increase self-esteem;

  • Financial assistance for players to join NSW Baggy Blues trips to regional NSW which promote good mental health and showcase PB (Target) Cricket; and

  • Replacement of a mini-bus to help transport AASC community members to events.

Personal Best (PB) Target Cricket is a highly accessible, easily scaleable and fast-paced form of the game built on fairness, autonomy and earned achievement. Every player has personalised performance targets generated by their own scores and records from earlier games.

All Ability Sports Coaching specialised cricket programs are designed to ensure people living with disability can experience genuine success, enjoyment and belonging through sport. Up to 40 players aged from 4 to 74 years, primarily living with intellectual disability and others with physical, sensory and mental health support needs, participated last season. Family members, support workers and mainstream players also joined in, creating a truly shared cricket experience.

The impact of the initiative has been profound. Participants have experienced:

  • Increased confidence and skill development;

  • A strong sense of community belonging; and,

  • Opportunities to earn representative honours at appropriate levels.
